Second SCALE project meeting in Murcia, Spain
Our second in-person project meeting took place in Murcia, Spain from 22-24th November 2022.
We had a productive meeting with discussions of the work plan and exchange of results and knowledge between partners.
Our Spanish hosts from CSIC had arranged a field trip through the catchment area of the Mar Menor lagoon to inspect issues of erosion and connectivity in the landscape. This gave us the chance to see the agricultural production areas with orchards and vegetable farming, which deliver sediment to the lagoon during high rainfall events. To mitigate the sedimentation and pollution of the lagoon, mitigation measures such as hedgerows and restoration projects of the tributaries, the area surrounding the lagoon and mining areas in the mountains have been established.
